Designing for Kids – Pediatric Clinically Integrated Networks

The Opportunity

Genesis has worked with several leading pediatric health systems that are demonstrating the power of child-focused clinically integrated networks (CINs). We partnered with one such pediatric CIN, jointly founded by two large healthcare organizations, to develop the strategy and design for a first-in-state pediatric CIN care management program.

Approach

Genesis conducted a comprehensive assessment of care management assets and capabilities across two health systems, including a maturity evaluation, gap analysis, and change readiness assessment. Findings informed the development of a five-year strategy and operational plan to guide scalable, flexible growth in care management, risk, and measurement, aligned with market opportunities. In addition, Genesis worked with the client to co-develop specific care management programs tailored to the unique needs and experiences of pediatric patients and their families.

Outcomes

The pediatric CIN has grown to include 1,100+ providers, 5 hospitals, and nearly 200,000 pediatric covered lives, and provides care management services to patients with asthma, diabetes, sickle cell disease, behavioral health concerns, and social health needs.

Key Design Element

Successful creation of a CIN care management program within a joint venture required intentional and active engagement by clinicians and operational leaders from both partner organizations to ensure operational alignment and to cultivate shared ownership and accountability.
